The regular season ends next week and then playoffs kick in after Memorial Day weekend so things are getting fun down at Boyle Park! In the Majors, the Rays have taken command of first place after big wins over the Giants and Yankees. In the Minors, the Mariners have won five in a row to take control of the top spot. And in Minors AAA, the Cardinals and Royals are locked atop the standings

MAJORS

Rays 7, Giants 1 — In the battle for first place, Beckett Glynn led the way with five excellent innings on the mound, walking none, allowing just three hits and at one point setting down 12 in a row to lead the Rays.

Baylin Newman and Henry Ellis each laced a two-run double, and Davis Marshall added two hits and scored two runs for the winners. 

For the Giants, Brodie Williams hurled 2 and 1/3 innings of one-run ball, and Rory Murphy struck out five in two innings and added an RBI single.

Giants 4, Tigers 0 — Gray Getty had a big day for the Giants, hurling four innings of shutout ball, allowing just one hit and walking none, and went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Quinn Barnard hit a sacrifice fly that plated two for the winners, while Brodie Williams tossed two innings of scoreless ball.

For the Tigers, Jack Chaudhry tossed two shutout innings with five strikeouts.

Yankees 8, Giants 7 — Uggie Burrows stole home to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth and Mikey Peavy drove in Archie Byrnes with a line drive to take the lead as the Yankees won a wild one. The Yankees were fueled by a big three-run home run by Oscar Karlen over the right-center field fence in the first inning.

Henry Lee was a standout on defense for the Yanks, including a shoestring catch in left field to snuff out a bases-loaded rally. Archie Byrnes pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings of relief to close it.

For the Giants, Quinn Barnard and Jackson Blitzer each notched RBI singles, Rory Murphy had an RBI double and Reid Holbrook hit a bases-clearing double.

Yankees 12, Tigers 5 — Max Vreede went five strong innings and Vreede, Henry Lee and Oscar Karlen each had two hits and multiple RBIs for the Yankees. The Yankees also played solid defense, highlighted by Henry Lee chasing down a long fly ball in foul territory and a great pick at first base by Mike Peavy. 

The Tigers got multiple hits from Levi Weber, Jack Chaudhry, and Alex Meleis.

Yankees 4, Giants 2 —Charlie Davies twirled five strong innings with no walks and five strikeouts to pace the Yankees and Oscar Karlen broke a 2-2 tie with a big home run to right center field in the fourth inning for the winners. Oscar Walker closed it out with an efficient seven-pitch inning. 

Mike Peavy and Max Vreede paced the Yanks with back-to-back RBI hits in the first inning. 

For the Giants, Brodie Williams stole home twice. Reid Holbrook tossed three innings for the Giants, while Williams and Rory Murphy (three Ks) added an inning each.

Rays 4, Yankees 3 — Walker Yeager lined a single up the middle to score Baylin Newman in a walk-off victory for the Rays. 

Beckett Glynn started the game for the Rays and held the Yankees scoreless for three innings while August Gottlieb kept the Yankees off the scoreboard over the last two innings. 

For the Rays, Davis Marshall drove in two runs with a triple in the third inning and Henry Ellis had two hits. 

For the Yankees, Oscar Karlen drove in two runs and Mike Peavy had two hits.

MINORS

Mariners 11, Rangers 4 — Les Sollner smacked a grand slam over the center field fence and Cooper Maddex hit a bases-loaded triple to pace the M’s in a big win for the Minors standings. Beau Bremer and Knox Medow each had a double and Raleigh Coleman reached base every at-bat for the winners. 

Mariners pitching was highlighted by Sollner, who threw two scoreless innings. Cody Chittenden and Maddex combined to finish up the game, allowing one run and whiffing four.

Rangers bats were led by Wyatt Droege,  who ripped two doubles followed by Paxton King, Patrick Dawson, Luca MacLean, Liam Mechler and Henry Lawniczak, each with a hit. 

Droege pitched allowed one run in two innings on the mound, and Patrick Dawson hurled a scoreless inning.

Diamondbacks 6, Cubs 6 (7 innings) — Tyler Feduska and Joe Blancarte each had clutch hits that led to a combined five RBIs for the Cubs. Abdullah Mullah (four Ks), Feduska (four Ks), and Tate Shackleton (four Ks) each threw two innings and  Blancarte pitched a scoreless seventh. 

Mariners 4, Giants 3 — Cody Chittenden stroked a two-out hit to plate Rivington Lee and win a walk-off thriller for the M's. Lee had drawn a walk, then stole second and third to set it up.

Cooper Maddex had a big day for the Mariners, smacking an RBI triple and whiffing five in two scoreless innings. Chittenden added two scoreless frames.

For the Giants, Charlie McIntosh hit a two-run double and Hank Moline’s RBI single tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth. Laszlo Winn hit a double for the Giants, and threw two scoreless innings. McIntosh whiffed five in two innings. 

Rangers 17, Phillies 10 — The Rangers collected 19 hits, including at least one from every player. Luca MacLean led the way with three hits and an inning pitched with two strikeouts, while Patrick Dawson added a double, a triple and three RBIs. Teddy Holbrook and Paxton King each had three-hit days, and Wyatt Droege and Liam Mechler each had to knocks.

For the Phillies, Bradley Krischer had two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI.  Alexander Sawyer and Blake Noller also collected hits.  Milo Davies struck out four in the loss. 

Cubs 11, Rangers 6 — Contributions came all over for the Cubs, including RBIs from Zach Cornelius, Joe Blancarte (two), Declan McAteer, Rhodes Tewksbury, Elijah Boley, Avery Peskin (two), Will Schluensen (two).

Abdullah Mullah whiffed four in two innings, and Tate Shackelton threw two scoreless frames and struck out four. Tyler Feduska closed the game and struck out two.

MINORS AAA

Royals 6, Pirates 4 — The Royals pulled off a win on a night when offense was at a premium, using a three-run rally in the third fueled by key hits from Cruz Williamson and Pax Parsa-Grenough. Strong pitching by Quinn Ensley and Oliver Lynch closed out the win

Stefan Sigg shined for the Pirates, with two hits and two scoreless innings in relief, including six strikeouts.

Cardinals 11, Royals 7 —Hayes Stephens notched his first base hit of the season, Grey Robinson tossed two scoreless innings and Jeffers Pickard made a sizzling play at second base for the Cards in a showdown of the league’s two top teams.

A’s 11, Rockies 7 —Paul Coogan hit a big three-run home run for the A’s and Miles Ingles-Arkell hit a ball deep into the outfield for the Rockies in a game where both teams played solid defense.
